DVD/Bluray Main Menu: First Look

For those of you interested in something a bit fancier than a plain old digital copy this December, here's a sneak peek at what the DVD/Bluray main menu will look like! Everything was created in Adobe After Effects, with a high-quality scan of Thror's Map as the background. I changed the map color to green, since that's how it was colored by Tolkien in his book.

This has me so incredibly hyped for the full release of this thing. I have an uncle that is a massive fan of the Lord of the Rings films and this is going to make a wonderful Christmas present for him.

I know you're likely bogged down between real life, this, and other projects, but I wonder if there's any way you could make a short tutorial to burn the files to DVD and Blu Ray disks? It's not something I'm too familiar with and I don't want to end up wasting money on the wrong kind of disk/burning program.

Can I also ask what kinds of features you're including with the end release? My guess is that Set Up is for subtitles, and maybe audio?

Thanks Donavon! I can provide some tips for downloading/burning to DVD/Blurays after the release. Here are some preliminary tips for you...

First off, you will of course need a DVD/Bluray burner drive for your computer. If you're burning DVDs, they will need to be dual-layer discs as the film will not fit on plain single-layers. You will then need to download the proper DVD/Bluray files from this site, which will be either ISO or MKV files. Since this is a 2-disc set, there will be two files to download. You will then need software to burn the files onto your DVD/Bluray discs...I am not sure if there are any free programs for this, but I use Adobe Encore.

As for Special Features, I will include the shorter fan edit, Durin's Folk and the Hill of Sorcery along with the trailer I edited. I'm planning to have a Stereo and 5.1 Surround audio option, and MAYBE subtitles. That will require some help from people- I just don't have the patience to do that myself!

Hey Dustin. If I want to burn Blurays, will I need dual-layer discs or will normal Bluray discs work?

Hi Leonardo,

In a previous post there were a couple of people who offered to help with subtitles. I myself am capable of transcribing the film in English, Spanish & Dutch. Of course, I don't have all the time in the world to do all those languages. I think it's best for me to do the Spanish (Mexican) subtitles and leave English to someone else. We're gonna have to make a division of tasks. Maybe Dustin can make a post to clarify who's going to work on what once his fan edit is finished.

We'll probably hear from each other soon.

Yes, I will soon be asking for volunteers for subtitles/translations! Right now it would be pointless, since the edit isn't finished yet. In a perfect world, I would love to have subtitles in English/Spanish/French at least. We'll cross that bridge a bit later!

Hi Dustin, I'm just wondering if you've seen any of the digital copy of the BOFA EE on iTunes or seen scenes from YouTube?

They look pretty awesome and really add to the battle and clear up loose ends in my opinion. They could have had more but it is what it is. I'd recommend tying to keep in a lot of the extra battle scenes to add to what many people were hoping with a longer actual battle than what was in your first draft (which was awesome BTW). Just wondering your thoughts!!
