The title pretty much says it all, doesn't it? Enjoy!

I hope you kept Misty Mountain as the music during Thorin's charge from the mountain. This trailer confirms it. I will never understand why the theatrical version did not use that piece for that scene because it is infinitely more powerful than the one that appeared in the film.

From the trailer, I deduce that you have reinserted the eagles rescue and have also digitally removed the layer of gold covering Smaug :-)

Hello Saelvo, I am still planning to keep the final fan edit around the 4-hour mark. I think this is a good length for the story and can still be easily viewed in one sitting! Thanks for your feedback!

Will you be releasing a list of changes you made from your rough cut to the final cut?

Yes, I will release a list of changes before the final cut comes out. Obviously I'll have to see what the BOFA EE contains before doing so.

Really excited for this, my jaw dropped when I saw Smaug without the molten gold, great work. However, I've got to say that bringing back the eagles part is a bad call, it was totally unnecessary, it didn't provide any development for the story, and .. seriously, the eagles? again??

I think a lot of people (myself included) felt that it just wasn't "The Hobbit" without all those iconic scenes from the book. The eagle rescue is definitely one of those scenes. Plus it makes much more sense logistically. Those who know their Middle-earth geography know that it's quite a ways from the edge of the Misty Mountains to Beorn's house.

Yes, now that the eagle sequence has been re-inserted, I have to say that it's nice seeing them in the film. Even if they are a convenient plot device...but that's more of a Tolkien problem than a Peter Jackson one! I'll be sharing the new sequence here later today.

This might be too much to ask for, I don't know. But do you think it would be possible to tone down Smaug's shininess when he leaves Erebor? It's awesome that you removed the gold color from him, but he still looks really shiny, which looks very weird. I think toning it down just a little would make a great difference.

Yes I'm still working on that shot...it's really tough because the shiny bits are overexposed. So bringing down the highlights just makes the shiny parts look texture-less. But I agree a little bit may help...I think if I add some film grain on top that might sell the shot even moar.

Yeah, the lack of texture definitely becomes an issue. Great idea about the film grain, I think you're on the right track there. I tried adding some noise and then some blur on top of that, and that sure makes it look a lot better, even if it's still far from perfect:

Hi again, Dustin. I have now also made disc artwork for "Durin's folk and the Hill of sorcery". As I understand it you plan on including this sidequest film on one of the discs of your main fanedit? But I thought I'd make separate artwork for it anyways if I ever decide I want to burn the sidequest film on a disc of it's own. Again, feel free to do whatever you want with it.
