JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit

Subtitles...and lots of them!

NEW SUBTITLE FILES AVAILABLE ON THE DOWNLOADS PAGE

This has taken quite a bit of time and effort from a lot of people around the world, but we now have a solid collection of subtitles for J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit! They are available in multiple languages too. So far we have English, Spanish, French, Dutch, German, Finnish, Swedish, Portuguese, and Hebrew. I have not been able to test them for accuracy, so I'll leave that up to you viewers. If you notice any major issues, please let me know and we'll try to get them fixed.

You'll notice that not every language is offered for the disc-based versions of the film. It's not a simple matter of just splitting the full subtitle file in half...the timestamps which determine when a line appears onscreen have to be completely re-timed for the second disc. So if you want to see accurate disc subs in your language, step up and volunteer!

Now I am not sure how you can add subtitles to a video file, or to an ISO file. I know it can be done, but I have never done it. If someone here would like to offer some advice or link to a tutorial somewhere, that would be awesome.

Lastly, I'd like to thank ALL the volunteers that helped make these subtitles available: Chad Mosby, Eric Olson, Bobby Fitzsimmons, Benjamin Marechal, Sandro Algra, Reijo Nyberg, PiNokKiO, Eric Odmyr, Simon Lydell, Nicolas Clavijo, Scarlett Buse, and others that contributed semi-anonymously. THANK YOU!!

I'll sync Czech subtitles for complete and split versions in the future. But could You please find a way how to integrate them into DVD or better in BR version, please?

Do you have english subtitles for Durin's Folk and the Hill of Sorcery so I can sync a Czech version based on them?

I've since found out how to split the subtitle file in two (pretty simple actually).

The Dutch subtitles can be found over here as two separate files: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5jrvi4a42t82g6h/AACkkwxWQGvmmlTYRt2oLDaTa?dl=0

First of all you need the software Subtitle Edit (that's what I used at least). Then follow these steps.

- Save two copies of the subtitle file and name them part 1 & part 2.
- In part 1: select all the dialogue of part 2 and delete it.
- In part 2: select all the dialogue of part 1 and delete it.
- In part 2: go to the menu Synchronization and select Adjust all times. You'll get a timer. Now it's just a matter of typing in the amount of hours, minutes, seconds and decimals you want to subtract (which is a little over 2 hours). Do it a few times until you get the result you want.

Jag har även gjort undertexter till Durin's Folk and the Hill of Sorcery. Vet inte varför Dustin valde att inte inkludera dem på Downloads-sidan, men alla undertextfiler finns att hämta här:

http://tinyurl.com/TheHobbitSweSub

/////

I also made Swedish subtitles for Durin's Folk and the Hill of Sorcery. Not sure why Dustin decided not to include them on the downloads page, but you'll find all the Swedish subtitle files here:

http://tinyurl.com/TheHobbitSweSub

And by the way - I had some syncing issues when using the subtitles for the DVD with the Bluray ISOs and vice versa. I don't know if that's just an issue on my end or if others will have the same issues, but that's why you'll find several different versions of the subtitles. If one doesn't sync up correctly for you then just use the other one! And if you find any errors or mistakes, just reply here and I'll fix them as soon as possible!

No, I'm sorry, but I don't have English subtitles for it either. I had to make the Swedish subs from scratch.

At the moment we do not have English subs for Durin's Folk. If someone would like to volunteer for the job, that would be awesome!

Obviously before beginning all my thanks to Dustin Lee for his fantastic job.
Incorporate subtitles in Blu-ray iso is a big, big problem and I have not found a perfect solution, just a solution acceptable to see the film (but alas, I lose the menu Blu-ray).
I propose to you this solution:
1. Download the two iso files.
2. With MakeMKV extracting video and audio of each iso (are obtained 2 Mkv files of 25 go).
3. Take the 2 srt files prepared and place them in each folder MakeMKV.
4. Create Blu-ray files with DVDFab Blu-ray Creator, well check subtitles Fr.
5. Burn the files with BurnAware on a Blu-ray disc 25 go.
Sorry for my bad English … and a few small comments in French :

Max

Hi there!

First of all: A big thank you for your efford!
It's a very well done Fan-Edit (and i've seen lots of them...).

Now to my point:
I've done splitted german subs for the two BDs:

Disc 1: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mg2z85q8swvhmda/jrr_tolkiens_the_hobbit_-_gersub_bluray_disc_1.srt?dl=0

Disc 2: https://www.dropbox.com/s/f8zug3en5pcw4n4/jrr_tolkiens_the_hobbit_-_gersub_bluray_disc_2.srt?dl=0

Tested and proved!

Share it, spread it, have fun with it!

fantastic version of hobbit- I really enjoyed it !
however there are some problems with subs.

someone didn't test thoroughly enough :) subs in bluray turn out well out of sync towards the end of each part.

also while the sub quality is overall great- there are very few minor errors in them- in all releases. heres the list of those few errors.

201 shield misspelled -- 1321 esgaroth misspelled
-- 1887 correct is prize instead of price--
2176 & 2230 "unsure" entries for curt elvish military commands that dont need translation--i removed them as nobody knows elvish really :P
2286 "unclear" > Nori

anyway ill upload subs for 1080p file and bluray discs-properly synced and with corrections i mentioned above.

I made an english rendition of subtitles for Durin's Folk and the Hill of Sorcery. It is based upon the timings of the Swedish translation, by Eric Odmyr before me, and also, things that are already in English on screen, (like subtitles for Black Speech and location names) are ignored. Anyway, you can find it on my website at this Url, right clicking and "Save As" will work, or you can just click it, ant it'll pull up a browser view of my work you can save onto your own subtitle formatter I guess. https://www.deckuzdomain.com/downloads/Durin%27s%20Folk%20and%20the%20Hill%20of%20Sorcery.srt

I've done some tweaks to the timings too for instances where English seemed a bit long to reuse the Swedish timings, or if something felt weird broken up a certain way.

Try using a multiplexer like MKVtool to merge the new srt into the sub menu

Hi. I've been having trouble trying to find info on the site on how to integrate the subtitle files (txt or SRT) into the Maple Films edit of The Hobbit DVD/Blu-Ray ISO file. Can anyone point me to info where I can accomplish this without having to reconvert the video into lesser quality? This is on Mac Catalina OSX FYI.

Hi! I know that I'm very late on this, but I still wanted to ask if there's any way to fix the swedish letters å ä and ö to work in the subtitles srt files, because currently there's just weird symbols instead.

Hej Albin.
Have you downloaded the subtitles and tried them in a media player? The letters look weird for me too when looking at the srt in my web browser, but when it's downloaded it works perfectly fine in VLC.

I just want to say a big THANK YOU to:

1) Dustin for the wonderful edit. You've totally saved this film experience for me! I just can't abide the original versions.

2) Eric Odmyr for the astonishingly good Swedish subs. World class!

Also, does anybody have a guide on how to add subs to the DVD ISO files? Something beyond just "use this or that software" would be much appreciated.
