Rogue One:
The Battle of Scarif

May the 4th be with you. The Battle of Scarif is now available!

Picture
It's May 4, and that means that Rogue One: The Battle of Scarif is now available for download! Again, please make sure that you already legally own a copy of Rogue One before downloading. This fan edit would not have been possible if it weren't for the actual film and all the people who worked hard to bring it to life.

There are two options available- torrent link and a direct download via MEGA. Remember, the torrent will go quicker as more people seed it! I may make additional options available soon, but the torrent and MEGA links should be enough for now. Visit the Downloads Page here.

The Battle of Scarif is just under 50 minutes long, making it a nice little companion piece to the original theatrical release. Alternatively, you could watch this right before A New Hope! The main point of this edit is to focus on the epic battle sequence from Rogue One, while also adding elements to make it fit in more with the other Star Wars films. This means, among other things:
  • An opening text crawl, which summarizes the events of Rogue One leading up to the battle of Scarif.
  • Insertion of several music cues from John Williams. About 50-60% of the film's score is now comprised of classic Star Wars cues.
  • Classic Star Wars sound effects added in certain places, along with a few old-school wipe transitions.
  • Other cuts and adjustments to scenes throughout the battle, either to fit the new music cues or to pace the film a bit differently. For example, there isn't as much back-and-forth cutting between all the different characters anymore. This may have originally been to make the film seem more exciting, but it also made it difficult to follow the action at times.
  • The film ends exactly as it did in the original version, making it a perfect segue into A New Hope.

Hopefully you enjoy this edit- AFTER you've made sure you own a copy of the original film, of course. And please leave comments or feedback!

Something's off with your torrent file, mate (Chrome, Windows 7 64-bit).

Other than that; thanks! Been looking forward to this :D

Really? I've downloaded it from a separate computer and didn't notice any issues. What problem are you having with it?

That's weird. I'm getting this; http://i.imgur.com/nWfUgc2.png

Yeah, I tried it with AdBlocker off, still no luck. Tried it in Opera as well, same deal. Finally got through on Firefox, though.

Seriously weird......

Hey, question on your edit. You said in an earlier post that Leia’s scene has been cut. What was your reasoning to keep it in the film?

I decided that even though Leia's CGI was kind of weird, it wrapped the film up nicely. I just wish the scene would have been longer...from a pacing standpoint it just moves too quickly.

Downloaded it and I'm seeding! I was wondering if you're planning on releasing DVD covers for this one as well. It's not as big of an edit as your Hobbit edit, but I'm just wondering.

You did a good job adding John William's score, it makes the film tolerable, and it proves that you can polish a turd, but rogue one is still a turd of a movie.

I still hate the ending. Call me an old fashioned idiot, but I like having the heroes live in the end. And don't give me that "people die in war" or "sacrifice yadda yadda yadda." the opposite is also true "people can survive war" they're called Veterans. Also, Bothans got a big mention in ROTJ for their sacrifice over Death Star II and Rogue One not once in ANH which seems to suggest that stealing and transmitting the Death Star plans was not originally a big deal until Leia got them. No mention of lives lost, at all.

The ending could easily be fixed by removing the Death Star at Scariff and having Leia's ship far away from battle (NOT in the belly of another ship) and speeding away after the transmissions are beamed to her ship.

As a whole, Gareth Edwards screwed up, big time. I was thinking of buying his Godzilla movie, but, I will not. Not now or ever.

I don't view tfa or ro as canon. I hate them both. I have never hated a Star Wars movie before in my life, until now. Until Disney and jj abrams and now gareth edwards.

You still did a good job, could have been better, but I blame edwards.

Thanks Peter. I do think that Disney is taking the Star Wars films in a direction I'm not entirely fond of. People like to insult George Lucas for the prequels and his meddling with the OT, but he still created that universe and Star Wars doesn't feel the same without his involvement now.

I would like to someday know what Rogue One was originally going to be like (before the rewrites and reshoots). We do know from early trailer footage that Jyn/Cassian/K2SO all survive long enough to make it back outside, so it's possible they didn't die. Unfortunately I don't have enough footage to work with to make their fates any different than what we all saw in theaters.

The inclusion of the crawl and JW music is absolutely amazing! Great work mate! Any chance you might edit the whole movie? I would love to see the opening crawling in the beginning of the movie, plus with more JW music.

Thanks! No plans to make a full edit of Rogue One really...I'd like to see if we get another Bluray release down the line with deleted scenes and stuff. But the idea of adding more JW music is tempting...

Aww darn. I think you would do a great job doing a full edit. In the words of Palpatine, "Do it!" We probably will get another Bluray release of Rogue One later this year. Right before The Last Jedi comes out.

Dustin, thank you! Someone who understands how much music means to a movie. I really enjoyed watching your version of rogue one much more than the original version. It's so much more like Star Wars and had me on the edge of my seat for that battle, unlike when I saw it in the theater. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this I hope others do too. Well done! I used to only enjoy the last 5 minutes of Rogue One, not anymore!

This will be the version I watch, much like Harmy's original trilogy edits. You nailed it! THANKS!

Couple of comments:
I've watched it three times now and love Rogue One finally!
- love how you combined the hammerhead ship sequence, works much better
- don't really like the old Vader lines, they just don't seem right since the voice doesn't match and we know his classic quotes
- miss the Tarkin scene that was cut talking about Vader and the battle
- love the timing now of the battle and it's much more exciting
- small piece of Vader theme plays right before the black troopers arrive, seems out of place even though I know it's the original Williams score continuing.
- cannot wait for the 5.1 version!!!!
- glad Leia scene and the last 5 minutes of music was kept, only epic part of movie and score IMO of a Rogue One theatrical.
Thanks again!

From: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=103476554&postcount=2051

Had a watch, made a few notes as it went along. Opening crawl was alright. Had to pause and reread the last paragraph.

First.. a small thing: the first scene with k2so felt tacked in.

The Big Sin
Using Vaders theme for a fighter ship crashing at the furthest gaps between Vader appearances. Has me thinking they probably screwed up the music throughout, I just wasn't paying attention enough cos I wanted to give it a fair go.

Anyway...

Dimished the roles of Jyn and Chirrut. Increase for Cassian
The Jyn leadership role gutted and now seems to rely on Cassian more.
Introductory scenes had Cassian gaining more of a leader angle.
Final Jyn/Krennick scene became about Cassian coming to the rescue
Scene of Jyn being held back from Krennick by Cassian now just gives more clout to Cassian as leader

Dimished the role of Chirrut
Chirrut talking about the force came outta nowhere
Chirruts death had its emotional connection gutted

Grounding
The strength of conviction given for going against the rebel alliance or the sacrifice they knew they were making was lessened because so small of a background was given.

Vader inclusion pro and con
Vader felt introduced better.
Vaders inclusion at the end now felt a bit different. Like more predictable or something.

Bazes sacrifice
The grounding for Bazes sacrifice felt diminished but relatively similar to the original cut cos of Chirruts diminished role.

Admiral Raddus role clearer
The tactical role of Admiral Raddus made more clear. His being up front and strategising and all that.

Hammerhead appearred too fast
There was a weak consistency of the battle by bringing in the hammerhead so quickly when the rest of the battle showed that getting stuff done takes time.

Tarkin worked ok
It was a brief use of Tarkin and he didn't need to look someone in the eye so that felt ok.. ish.

You make it sound as though the increased leadership role of Cassian is a bad thing. The story no longer focuses on the Jyn father/daughter relationship, so she's simply a soldier, so is Cassian. It'd be difficult to change Cassian coming to Jyns rescue without removing a good portion of Krennic either.

I love the concept behind the edit but i must say that i didn't liked John Williams score of almost, if not all the OT and PT, in the edit.
- It is too loud to suppress the original score, which i like a lot i must say.
- Vader's voice and dialogue are noticeably from other movies in some parts, you could have left "the aspirations line"
- The sound of the AT-ACTs heavy lasers sometimes sounded like the side cannons of the the AT-AT
- Death troopers rifles should sound as they do originally. In the beach they have their original sound and when they go with Krennic after Jyn and Cassian they sound like the E-11s.
- Other sounds are not right, like Krennic's shuttle landing which it sounds like the Nubian ship we see in ep 2.

Besides these points, the shots are absolutely well done and it gives the audience a war like movie, it takes right to the action =). Good work guys.

+1, that was one of the best lines in the original film.

I disagree completely, that pun was one of the worst things about Rogue One for me, and I'm glad it's been replaced in this edit. Although I would have preferred no dialogue there at all as it would have made the choking more menacing in my opinion.

Nevertheless, fantastic work by MapleFilms on this edit

The switch of Vader's voice around the 4:30 mark is really weird and is entirely different from the rest of the dialogue. It sounds like Darth Vader got a new voice all of the sudden.

I agree. This was the ONLY thing that bothered me about this edit. I thought it was very clever and perfectly executed to frame the story with a Vader intro/ending. But that voice change was very jarring... hoping for a 2.0 with a fix (better audio mix).

Well done doing the edit.

One suggestion at almost the end of the movie. When Vader watches in silence the Tantive IV moving away, put a line "I want that ship." (from ESB) ... and maybe "and bring me the passengers. I want them alive!"

Just adding "I want that ship" made the scene a lot better.

I would suggest 2 more edits. 1. When Jyn says "May the Force be with us" after entering the ship before they go to Scarif. 2. When the rebels are gathering to fly and help Jyn and the crew, cut the loud speaker guy saying "May the Force be with you".

One thing that has always bothered me about this movie is how EVERYONE is all into the Force and believes in the Force, but then you go into ANH, and NO ONE outside of Vader, Luke and Obi Wan believe in the Force.

I do like the Monk in this movie though. he works as a Force character.

One other thing I would re-order is the ending of the movie. You watch this and ending, and then ANH and it just seems silly and childish to say that you are a consulate ship when you literally just undocked from Vaders destroyer and he is chasing you. Instead, it should have a cut where the destroyer is chasing Leia's ship, reverse the undocking so it looks like it is docking to be boarded by Vader, then show Vader's bad ass moment and cut to Leia saying "Hope".
